Inchlonaig traces back to 5000BC, and has thousands of Yew trees, scattered across the island, which it is said, were first planted by King Robert in the fourteenth century, to supply bows for his archers, including before the Battle of Bannockburn.

Part of the group of islands that surround Skye, Longay is uninhabited, and so quiet that the only thing that has happended on the island in the last 40 years is that in 1971, the MacBraynes mailboat, Loch Seaforth, ran aground on the island, sustaining only minimal damage

Lismore

Lismore, lies north of the island of Mull and like other Hebridean islands, has suffered from depopulation since the 19th century. In 1845 there were 1430 people living on the island, though by 1971 there were only 180. In the 2001 census, the population was 146, over 45% of whom were over 60 years old, making it the Scottish island with the oldest population.

Rousey island, 2 miles north of Orkney, has evidence from every stage in the history of Orkney, with a Neolithic settlement at Rinyo, Bronze Age burnt mounds, Iron Age crannogs and brochs (the highest density anywhere in Scotland: three within 500 metres (547 yd) of coastline), Viking boat burials, remains of a medieval church and the stately home at Trumland.
